AstroKarmas exists because good astrology software shouldn't require paying an astrologer by the minute. This page explains, plainly, what's actually computing your chart -- and where its limits are.
Vedic (Hindu) astrology -- planetary positions come from VedAstro, an open-source engine built on the Swiss Ephemeris, the same astronomical dataset professional astrology software uses worldwide. Charts use the Lahiri ayanamsa (sidereal zodiac) and whole-sign houses. Panchang, Muhurat, Vimshottari Dasha, Ashtakoot matching, and dosha checks (Mangal, Sade Sati, Kaal Sarp) are computed locally from real astronomical positions using panchang-ts, not looked up from a fixed table.
Chinese astrology -- BaZi (Four Pillars) uses Lichun (立春, the solar term around February 4th) as the year boundary, not Lunar New Year -- the astronomically correct convention, though many free tools get this wrong and use Lunar New Year instead. Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology) is computed as a full 12-palace astrolabe with major and minor stars.
None of this involves an AI model generating your chart or deciding your planetary positions. Every number -- a planet's degree, a Nakshatra, a Dasha date, an Ashtakoot score -- comes from a deterministic astronomical or calendrical calculation. The only place written interpretation appears is in the short readings attached to a placement (e.g. "Moon in your 7th house"), which are explained below.
Vedic interpretive text is grounded in classical house-transit (Gochar) theory and standard reference works such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and the Muhurta Chintamani (the same source panchang-ts cites for its Muhurat scoring rules). Predictions are built from an allowlist of hand-reviewed placements rather than generated fresh per visit -- the underlying astronomical facts change daily, monthly, and yearly; the written text describing what each placement classically means does not need to be regenerated to stay accurate.
Chinese interpretive text follows classical Ten Gods (十神) theory for BaZi and major/minor star meanings for Zi Wei Dou Shu, using the day/month/year Earthly Branch relationship (clash, harmony, trine) to your zodiac animal -- the same method traditional Chinese almanacs (黄历) use.
Every prediction shown on this site was hand-reviewed by the AstroKarmas editorial team before being added to the site's content library, specifically checked for tone and appropriateness -- raw classical prediction text sometimes carries outdated framing (caste references, gendered judgments, and similar) that has no place in a modern reading, and is excluded rather than shown as-is.
